VR Games Showcase March 2025: The Complete Breakdown

VR Games Showcase March 2025

The March 2025 VR Games Showcase has just wrapped up, and what an incredible event it was! With 22 exciting titles revealed, from massive multiplayer shooters to penguin adventures, this showcase demonstrated the impressive variety of experiences coming to VR this year. Let's dive into everything that was announced:

The Heavy Hitters

Forefront (Triangle Factory)

Triangle Factory, the team behind VR hits Hyper Dash and Breachers, kicked off the showcase with their most ambitious project yet: Forefront, a large-scale multiplayer VR shooter set in 2035. This isn't just another VR shooter – Forefront is pushing technical boundaries with 32-player battles across sprawling maps featuring land, sea, and air vehicles.

Players will choose between fighting for Orpiment Renewable Energy (O.R.E.), a corporation that has discovered a way to generate nearly infinite clean energy using Red Orpiment, or the resistance forces battling against them. The game will feature four distinct classes (Assault, Engineer, Medic, or Sniper), each with specialized weapons and abilities.

"With Hyper Dash and Breachers we wanted to bring our inspiration and childhood experience of playing multiplayer shooters to VR. We are continuing this trend with Forefront focusing on bringing a very high quality VR experience," said Timothy Vanherberghen, CEO of Triangle Factory.

Forefront will launch in early access at the end of 2025 for Meta Quest 2 and newer, PCVR, and PICO, with playtests beginning as early as this summer.

Hitman: World of Assassination (IO Interactive)

IO Interactive showcased fresh gameplay footage of Hitman: World of Assassination for PSVR2, demonstrating how Agent 47's signature stealth gameplay translates to virtual reality.

The PSVR2 version supports the entire main campaign with 22 unique locations and adds a variety of VR-specific mechanics. Players can dual-wield from an arsenal of over 100 weapons and perform intuitive movements like reloading, holstering, aiming sniper rifles, and stealing disguises with full ambidexterity.

The game takes full advantage of the PSVR2's technology, offering adaptive trigger support through the controllers, room-scale implementation, and spatial interactions. Hitman: World of Assassination launches on PSVR2 on March 27, 2025. Players who already own the game on PlayStation 5 can access an upgrade pack for $9.99/€9.99/£8.99.

Reave (Alta)

The developers of A Township Tale revealed their new cooperative VR dungeon crawler, Reave. While details are still scarce, the showcase featured a logo reveal and early gameplay footage. Fans can join their Discord for a chance to play early. The game is coming to Meta Quest 2/3/3s/Pro and PCVR.

Ghost Town (Fireproof Games)

Fireproof Games, known for The Room series, unveiled their first new IP in over 10 years with Ghost Town. This supernatural adventure casts you as Edith Penrose, a witch turned ghost hunter who tracks and exorcises restless spirits in haunted London.

Players will use a combination of wits, mystical knowledge, and ancient magic to glimpse beyond our world and solve the unearthly puzzles that stand in their way. Ghost Town will launch on Quest platforms in early summer, with PCVR and PSVR2 versions following shortly after.

Memoreum (Patient 8 Games)

Memoreum is a sci-fi survival horror game from Patient 8 Games, the team behind the acclaimed Half-Life: Alyx mod, Return to Rapture. Set in the year 2311 aboard the colony spaceship UCT Century Dawn, players take on the role of Dr. Otto Hudson, fighting to unravel the mystery behind the Ichor Infection that has taken over the last ship of humanity.

The game promises a world that bends reality in ways only VR can deliver, with an emphasis on survival mechanics, unique and powerful weapons, and an adaptive enemy system where the infected evolve as you do. Memoreum is scheduled for release in September 2025 for Meta Quest platforms, with PC VR and PSVR2 versions coming later.

Sequels and Beloved Franchises

ZIX (Hidden IO)

One of the most intriguing reveals was new gameplay for ZIX, a mind-bending VR action roguelike launching in Fall 2025 on Meta Quest 3/3S and Steam VR. Players take on the role of an Acolyte, an agent of cosmic disorder tasked with spreading chaos across corrupted realms.

The game features the "FIRST INSTINCT" proprietary gesture-based combat and movement system that eliminates menus and clunky controls, allowing for fluid movement and combat using just the triggers and grips. Players can collect world fragments, mix them in the Cauldron, and unleash bizarre effects that reshape reality itself.

ZIX supports both solo play and cooperative gameplay with up to two friends, with every run offering new combinations of weapons, abilities, and world mutations. The game is developed by Hidden IO, an independent VR studio founded by brothers Tam and Sol Tahirli, who previously worked at Unity and Ubisoft.

Gorn 2 (Cortopia Studios/Devolver Digital)

The gloriously violent gladiator simulator is getting a sequel, and the new gameplay trailer didn't disappoint. Gorn 2 promises to be bigger, wilder, and stronger than the original, with new weapons, traps, and power-ups.

Players will battle the five sons of the God of the Afterlife across heavenly realms in physics-driven combat that's "so irresponsibly violent you'll check your headset for blood spatters when you're done." The game is coming to Meta Quest 2/3/3s/Pro, PSVR2, and PCVR in 2025.

Postal 2 VR (Flat2VR Studios)

The cult classic game is getting a VR port through a collaboration between Flat2VR Studios and Running with Scissors. The first trailer was shown during the showcase, with the game targeting Meta Quest, PSVR2, and PCVR platforms, though no release date was announced yet.

Slender: The Arrival VR (Blue Isle Studios)

The terrifying Slender Man experience is coming to VR this spring. New gameplay footage demonstrated how the paranormal phenomenon will be even more intense in virtual reality. The game will be available on Meta Quest 2/3/3s/Pro, PSVR2, and PCVR platforms.

Updates and Platform Expansions

Breachers (Triangle Factory)

Triangle Factory's tactical VR shooter Breachers is getting a new Clone Projector gadget, available as a free update from today. This new tool should add another layer of strategy to the already popular multiplayer game.

Deep Cuts (Scythe Dev Team/tinyBuild)

In a surprise move, physics-driven action-adventure VR game Deep Cuts launched on the Meta Horizon Store during the showcase for $29.99. Developed by Scythe Dev Team and published by tinyBuild, Deep Cuts blends physics, intense melee action, a gripping storyline, and interactive film-inspired worlds.

Players take on the role of filmmaker Elise Weber, tasked with saving her creative partner Malcolm Micheaux from villainous cartoon creations. The game features physics-driven combat with improvised weaponry, time manipulation abilities, and environments set across films of many decades – from gritty film noir to retro-futuristic sci-fi and spaghetti westerns.

"In development for Deep Cuts, the team pushed Quest hardware to its limits to deliver a cutting-edge technical experience along with a highly captivating and spooky narrative," said Kaleb Alfadda, Principal Technical Engineer, Director & Founder, Scythe Dev Team.

Deep Cuts is available now on Meta Quest, with a PCVR version scheduled for later in 2025.

Vendetta Forever (Meat Space Interactive)

The stylish shooter Vendetta Forever is expanding to PCVR on May 8th, along with five new free levels for existing Quest and PSVR2 versions. Developed by Meat Space Interactive and published by nDreams, the game combines exhilarating VR action with iconic scenes inspired by cult cinematic mayhem.

The new levels include:

  • 'Speakeasy' – blast through a 1940s speakeasy with tommy guns and plenty of bowler hats
  • 'Submarine' – sabotage the submarine and get to the escape pod before it floods
  • 'Trench' – battle through a war-torn trench, across no-man's land, and into the enemy bunker
  • 'Tank' – face a slowly approaching tank with just a grenade launcher and a barrel
  • 'Terminal Velocity' – take down an enemy space station with new weapons

Underdogs (One Hamsa)

The underground mech fighting game Underdogs is coming to PSVR2 digitally on March 28th, with a physical release following on April 4th. Players can expect physics-based mech brawling with over 130 items to customize their machines as they fight up the food chain in New Brakka, the Mech Fighting Capital.

Indie Highlights

Stay: Forever Home (Windup Minds)

This virtual pet experience got a deep dive into its gameplay systems and revealed an April 2025 release window. In Stay: Forever Home, players will adopt Ember, a magical pet who responds to care and attention in surprising ways. The game promises an unforgettable journey of companionship and play, exclusively for Meta Quest 3, 3s, and Pro.

Penguin Festival (Cosy Cube Games)

Former Owlchemy Labs developer Zi Ye announced Penguin Festival, a cozy VR adventure game where players take on the role of a penguin helping to prepare for a yearly night festival. The game blends the easy-breezy vibes of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker with the satisfying interactivity of Job Simulator.

Players will explore a penguin town on the ocean, interact with a colorful cast of characters, and engage in various activities including festival preparation, fishing, and snowball fights. The game emphasizes freedom and a welcoming atmosphere, with no time pressure and multiple comfort options.

"My wish for this game is to take players to a world they will be happy to be a part of—somewhere where they feel welcome, at peace, and free to just be," said Zi Ye, who spent eight years at Owlchemy Labs working on acclaimed titles like Job Simulator and Rick & Morty: Virtual Rickality.

Penguin Festival is coming to Quest 2, Quest 3, and PCVR, with no release date announced yet.

Titan Isles (Psytec Games)

The developers of the Windlands series are back after a seven-year hiatus with a brand new co-op IP, Titan Isles. While details are scarce, the reveal trailer showcased a colorful world. The game is coming to Meta Quest and PCVR.

Exoshock (Polarity One)

New gameplay footage was revealed for Exoshock, a promising VR shooter that will be showcased at GDC 2025. Inspired by Helldivers 2, Warhammer 40K, Halo, and FEAR, Exoshock is a 1-4 player co-op FPS that merges tactical depth, relentless action, and high replayability.

Players will face AI squads that use real battlefield tactics, with dynamically generated missions ensuring no two encounters play out the same. The game features physics-driven firefights, squad-based specialization with different roles (Flanker, Suppressor, and Technician), and environments that are described as "hostile, oppressive, and alive."

Strategy and Simulation Games

Surviving Mars: Pioneer (Bolverk Games)

A VR adaptation of the classic strategy game was announced, with early access planned for 2025. This collaboration between Paradox Interactive, Bolverk Games, and Flat2VR Studios will bring the Mars colony simulation to Meta Quest and PCVR.

Prison Boss: Prohibition (Trebuchet)

This sequel to the prison crafting game revealed Mixed Reality support and collocated play (VR couch co-op) for Meta Quest versions. In Prison Boss: Prohibition, players run various shops throughout New Yolk City, crafting both legal and questionably legal merchandise to get rich.

The game offers both co-located play, where friends can join in the same physical space, and online co-op. Players will need to stay out of sight of patrolling cops or risk losing their contraband, while building street cred and expanding their catalog of goods. Alpha access for the MR mode starts March 18, with interested players able to sign up on the official Discord.

Roboquest VR (Flat2VR Studios)

A brand new gameplay trailer was revealed for Roboquest VR, the upcoming VR port of the popular roguelite. The trailer offered a first look at how the fast-paced FPS translates to VR, including its co-op gameplay. Players will shoot and run through randomly generated environments, picking up upgrades and battling powerful bosses along the way. The game is coming to Meta Quest, PSVR2, and PCVR in Fall 2025.

Out of Sight VR (Flat2VR Studios)

The upcoming horror game from The Gang and Starbreeze is getting a full VR port via Flat2VR Studios. While details are scarce, the showcase featured a first look at gameplay for Out of Sight VR. The game will be available on Meta Quest, PSVR2, and PC VR, though no release date was announced yet.

Shadowgate VR: The Mines of Mythrok (Zojoi LLC., Azure Drop Studios)

The classic dungeon crawling series will bring its VR iteration, Shadowgate VR: The Mines of Mythrok, to PSVR2. As the first book in the Shadowgate Saga, players can step into the fantasy world of Kal Torlin like never before, with Odin the raven as their guide. The game includes four difficulty levels to fit different play styles. While already available on other platforms, this PSVR2 port will bring the adventure to a new audience.

Looking Ahead

The VR Games Showcase highlighted the impressive diversity and ambition of upcoming VR titles. From massive multiplayer shooters like Forefront to intimate, character-driven experiences like Penguin Festival, there's something for every type of VR enthusiast on the horizon.

Many of these titles will be playable at GDC 2025, with Exoshock specifically mentioned as making an appearance there. What's particularly noteworthy is the balance between brand new IPs, beloved sequels, and clever adaptations of flat-screen games to VR.

Flat2VR Studios seems particularly busy, with four separate announcements including Postal 2 VR, Out of Sight, Surviving Mars: Pioneer, and Roboquest VR, showing their commitment to bringing established franchises into the VR space.
